10) Generating ideas - 3 (synopsis/plot)

The overall synopsis of my short film is unlike that to a conventional one. As my short film is filmed in a linear sequence, the plot is puzzled. The overall plot of the short film, which is insinuated strongly by the audio I intend to us, is that of someone being in love and comparing that to the world, and nature. I wanted to show the comparison of finding love and the world as similar, as both are natural - love should come naturally like the world is, and should be beautiful. The short film shows their time together and includes some close friends of the main character along the way. I wanted to involve this so it could show that friendships are as beautiful as relationships can be. At the end of the short film it will be made obvious that the individual that the main character has fallen in love with has died. The 3 Act Structure The three-act structure is a model used in narrative fiction that divides a story into three parts , often called the Setup, the Confrontation and the Resolution. Some people like to call them beginning, middle, and end, which is not inaccurate. The point of the acts is to make sure that the story evolves and the stakes get higher. The first act is where all the major characters of the story are introduced, plus the world where they live in, and the conflict that will move the story forward. In Act I, the writer has the freedom to create any setting and reality that he so wishes. It’s in the first pages of the script that he defines the reasoning and logic of the story. This early in the script, anything is possible. The second act is by far the longest, encompassing half of the movie and taking place between the first and third acts. 13) Evaluation

Demir Kama is based around a love story between two people and comparing it with the beauty of nature, highlighting how both things come naturally. I chose to film in a non-linear sequence to represent memories and experiences of the love story, including encounters with friends along the way. This in a way does not conform to a conventional short film - although the plot is in linear order as it describes the middle and end of a relationship, the memories are puzzled and appears as a dream sequence. I partly took inspiration from A Place Like This, which is a short film by Tall story films, regarding the shots I have chosen in my short film. I took lots of wide, panning shots to really grab the beauty of landscapes and nature, very similarly to A place like this.
